LOS ANGELES (Gaeatimes.com)- Hollywood director John McTiernan, who is best known to have directed the smash hit “Die Hard” series, was given a one year sentence on Monday for putting forward false statements in a case involving celebrity private detective Anthony Pellicano. The noted director pleaded guilty in the year 2006 to lying to agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation about employing a private investigator in order to wire-tap a film producer illegally.

Apart from the one-year prison term that John McTiernan faces, after the charges of one count of perjury and lying to the federal agents were levied against him, the famed director was fined 100,000 dollars. According to the court ruling that was delivered on Monday by U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer, John McTiernan would have to serve a term of one year behind the bars and would also have to serve a probation period of three years. The case stemmed after the 59-year-old director hired the convicted sleuth Anthony Pellicano to wiretap a producer following their association in the movie “Rollerball.” John McTiernan supposedly lied to the FBI agents about the case and after he was pleaded guilty, he tried to withdraw the plea contending that he did not receive proper legal advise earlier on.

However, in the year 2009, John McTiernan faced indictment from a grand jury which found him guilty of one count of perjury and two counts of putting forward false statements. According to reports, the renowned director did not address the court on Monday when the sentencing was announced by U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer.
