Chinese want a ‘men’s day’ to cope with stress

BEIJING - A majority of Chinese people (80 percent) want a “men’s day” to be observed every year to allow them get rid of their stress.
An online poll of 6,021 people nationwide has found that 80 percent Chinese believe men are under so much stress that a “men’s day”, which is supposed to fall Aug 3 every year, is essential.
Only nine percent of respondents felt such a day was not needed, partly because it lacks a historical precedent, among other things, reports China Daily.
Many respondents said Aug 3 is appropriate because it is the third day of the eighth month, the opposite of International Women’s Day, which is the eighth day of the third month.
“Men are living under greater pressure than women, and statistics show the life span of men is 10 years shorter compared with women in general,” said a netizen named “dazzling breeze” on the forum. “In this sense, men deserve to have such a day to ease their burdens.”
A popular Chinese pop band Yuquan had recently composed a theme song for the “2010 international men’s day” which was co-organised by the four men’s magazines.
The pop duo said they are seeking to illustrate men’s tough and gentle sides in the tune.
