LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com) — It was one of the most surprising episodes of “American Idol”. After being voted off by public opinion, Micheal Lynche was saved by the judges in the last season of “American Idol“.

The 26-year-old, hailed from St. Petersburg, Florida is one of the most favorite contestants of American Idol. But suddenly he faced elimination after performing “Eleanor Rigby” in answer to this week’s theme which is the Lennon/McCartney songbook.

Lynche received lowest number of voters of the top 9 contestants and was sent to the bottom three along with Andrew Garcia and Aaron Kelly. But he somehow managed to impress the judges and was saved by them.

We have decided we’re going to see you next week

, said Simon Cowell on behalf of the judging panel. Lynche was elated hearing the announcement and thumped his chest in joy. The remaining top 8 contestants rushed to embrace him.

This is the second time in “American Idol” history that the judges have used the save, which was introduced last season and can only be exercised once, before the contestant pool is brought down to five. Last season’s fifth place finisher, Matt Giraud, was saved during top 7 week.

Yesterday’s episode was full of surprising elements. Two new instruments — didgeridoo and the bagpipe were introduced in the Idol stage. In the absence of a mentor this week, the episode was arranged in a new format. A video clippings of the contestants describing each other was shown as an introductory part before they sing. However another surprising as well as embarrassing situation occurred as the judge Simon Cowell was heckled by an audience.

The next episode of American Idol will be aired on Tuesday, April 13, with top 9 contenders and Adam Lambert as the mentor. Top 9 finalists are: Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, Katie Stevens and Tim Urban. The sad news is that as a result of Lynche’s save, two contestants will be eliminated.
