Nazril ‘Ariel’ Irham Gets Jail Term

BANDUNG, INDONESIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Pop star Nazril ‘Ariel’ Irham has been jailed for three and a half years on Monday after an Indonesian court sentenced him for his involvement in sex videos featuring his celebrity girlfriends that went viral on the web. The pop star has been convicted under the anti-pornography law of the country, owing to which he would have to be serve the jail term and would also have to shell out $28,000 fine that has been slammed against him. Nazril ‘Ariel’ Irham becomes the very first celebrity to be found guilty under the anti-pornography regulations since it was implemented in the year 2008.

According to the verdict that was given at a court in Bandung, Nazril ‘Ariel’ Irham was convicted for ‘giving an opportunity for others to spread, produce and prepare a pornographic video.’ While reading out the verdict, Judge Singgih Budi Prakoso reiterated that the pop star should have checked his actions as being a public figure, he should have been aware of the fact that his fans might have imitated his behavior. The judge further went on to add that the 29-year-old hardly did anything to prevent the wide circulation of the pornographic videos featuring him and two of his celebrity girlfriends.

After the verdict was read out on Monday sentencing Nazril ‘Ariel’ Irham to three and a half years jail term, all his fans who had gathered at the court premises broke down into tears while the pop star looked shaken and did not say a word. In the meanwhile, large number of protesters had gathered outside the courtroom, urging for more stringent punishment for the pop star.
