August 30, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): This Sunday when Jewel sang the Emmys ‘In Memoriam’ piece, she said it was a special performance. According to the singer, this was not just another gig but had certain emotional values attached to it. The singer said that the song was written for a friend who passed away recently. Jewel was talking to Nate Berkus during the pre-show for NBC’s Red Carpet on Sunday afternoon when she said that the song has been really close to her heart.

Jewel rendered ‘Shape of You’ with nothing but a guitar to back her up and the song touched everyone’s heart. This special song has not been included in any of the Singer’s albums. Jewel said that the song has not been recorded anywhere yet and she was thankful that the Emmy producers let her sing an unknown song.

Jewel further said that it was an honor to lend her voice in tribute to the late stars of Hollywood like Dennis Hooper, Gary Coleman and Rue McClanahan, who have pursued excellence in all spheres of their lives. Jewel said that it was particularly hard for her to sing this song as she has just lost a loved one, but she was glad to be at the Emmys.
