IIFA Awards 2010 Winners Announced

COLOMBO (GaeaTimes.com)- The IIfa awards 2010 was held on Saturday in Colombo Sri Lanka. Each year the awards ceremony that honors the leading actors and actresses of Bollywood id held in different countries and this year it was Sri Lanka’s turn. However, as it turned out the ceremony was a low key event with a number of big Bollywood stars staying away from the event. The biggest blockbuster of last year ‘3 Idiots’ proved to be the show stealer with 17 awards. The awards it bagged included Best director, best picture and many others.

The IIfa awards 2010 was not exactly a star studded affair. The Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo was revamped for the event but many empty chairs were seen in the event which was rather unexpected. Both Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan were not at the ceremony and it was reportedly owing to a protest by a Tamil group. It is worth noting that Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador for the awards ceremony and in the last few years he never missed the award ceremonies. The number of Bollywood fans in Colombo is quite high and the fans of the actors attended the venue and they were quite excited at the prospect.

Sri Lanka reportedly spent a whopping $4 million to set up the infrastructure to hold the IIfa awards 2010. Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan, two Bollywood hunks set the stage on fire with their electrifying performances the evening. The fans were screaming in joy and wanted to have more of the fun and exhilaration. The event was covered by major TV channels.
