LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- ‘Due Date‘ is a comedy that has hit the theaters and it reunites the actor director duo of the runaway hit ‘Hangover’, namely Zach Galifianakis and Todd Phillips. There is also the ‘Iron Man’ actor Robert Downey Jr though he does not display any superhero antics in this movie! The movie may remind one of the road trip comic caper of the 1980s named Planes, Trains & Automobiles which was directed by John Hughes. The protagonist in the movie is Peter Highman, played by actor Robert Downey Jr. who is trying to reach home to be with his spouse before the birth of their baby. However, his plan to reach home in time gets tossed when he comes across Ethan Trembley played by the talented Zach Galifianakis. While Peter Highman has a snappy temperament his companion Ethan Trembley has a knack of always getting into unexpected and unforeseen troubles.
‘Due Date‘ does manage to tickle the funny bone of the viewers but it hardly offers anything exceptional or unprecedented in the comedy department. Some parts of the movie do look predictable. The funny and whacky situations that crop up one after another in the movie provide the cause of laughter to the viewers, At the same time these incidents help the duo to understand each other better. Both the actors do justice to their roles and it is a welcome relief to see Robert Downey Jr playing a common man on the roads after his larger than life histrionics in the two Iron Man movie or the more recent ‘Sherlock Holmes’.
The critics have given mixed feedback to the movie ‘Due Date‘. However, the side plot involving Jamie Foxx could have been made more interesting.
