Venice Film Festival Honors John Woo

VENICE, ITALY (GaeaTimes.com)- John Woo, a Chinese film director and producer has been awarded the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement by Venice Film Festival. The director was happy and excited when he received the award on Friday night. The director of “Hard Target” said that he saw himself as a bridge between China and Hollywood.

John Woo’s one of the most highly acclaimed movie “Reign Of Assassins” was screened in the Venice Film Festival on Friday night. The director said that he wants to make movies that will “incorporate” all the good things from “West” and “East”. The director also added that he hopes to strengthen the mutual knowledge and strong friendship between East and West. John Woo received the award from Hong Kong director Tsui Hark and American director Quentin Tarantino, who were the jury president for Venice Film Festival 2010’s main competition. John Woo is renowned for his stylized films with highly choreographed action sequences.

Venice Film Festival described the veteran director as an “innovator” of the present day “language” of movies. The director of “Mission: Impossible 2″ dedicated his award to his family, his mother and wife. The director, while receiving the award said that he thinks he does not have much contribution to the film “society” and at the same time, he feels that he made several good films as well. His recent movie “Reign Of Assassins” stars Michelle Yeoh who plays an assassin and falls in love with the son of a man who was killed by her gang. The director said that it is a general believe among people that martial arts are all about “men” and with his new release he wants to show women as martial arts “heroes.”
