Earlier, Kashyap had re-written the ‘Devdas’ story in the modern context for Dev D. Anurag’s movie is titled Gangs of Wasseypur, which is based on the coal mine mafia. This project is believed to be the most ambitious project of Kashyap till date.

Anurag has also re-united with old friend, Manoj Bajpai in this film. Manoj has been signed to play the role of a coalmine owner. His character is modeled on Marlon Brando’s Don Corleone.

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi may play a vital role in the film, but is still under consideration. The cast of the film include Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Piyush Mishra and a new face.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is supposed visit Dhanbad secretly in order to research on his character, which is inspired by Al Pacino’s Michael Corleone. Siddiqui said, “I have always secretly desired to play a role of Pacino’s someday. It’s a dream come true for me.”

Speaking about his role, Manoj Bajpai said, “I am very happy that Kashyap is writing my character in the film and also directing it. He is the same person, who wrote Bhikhu Mhatre’s role for me in Satya. We are working together after so many years, which is exciting in itself.”
