Sherlock Holmes Sequel To Release In December 2011

May 29, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The sequel of the last year super hit film Sherlock Holmes has now got a release date. Distributors, Warner Bros. have declared that audiences can expect the sequel to hit the screen on 16 December 2011.

Barry Meyer, the executive of Warner Bros. revealed the date of the film, which will continue to have Guy Ritchie as the director. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will resume their roles and the shoot of the film is set to begin this autumn.

The speculations making the rounds are, whether Brad Pitt will appear in the film as the infamous antagonist Professor Moriarty. Michele Mulroney, who’s the writer of the film, said that they are huge Pitt fan and the character of Professor Moriarty is significant but refused to say anything about if Pitt has been approached for the role.

The original film was released in December 2009 and made $65,380,000 worldwide making it the 8th highest grossing film of 2009. It is also Guy Ritchie’s biggest commercial success till date.

The mystery film is based on the characters of same name created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It deals with Holmes, played by Downey, investigating a series of murders, apparently connected to an occult ritual.
