May 14, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Young santoor player Rahul Sharma is on a roll and how! He has just returned from his tour to the US and Canada. He has been on various tours, but this was the first time he collaborated with the tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain.
The duo had conducted various Hindustani classical music concerts on this tour. They performed six concerts in about eight days. The music in these concerts were mainly based on raga Chahrukeshi and Drut Ek Taal. These live performances by the pair were recorded and are now out in an album called ‘Rhythm of Love’. Saregama India Ltd. is set to release this album.
About the name of the album, Rahul explained that raga Chahrukeshi is related to love and feelings and hence ‘Rhythm of Love’. The very talented young musician has already released about 45 hit albums of fusion and classical music. Yet, the ‘Rhythm of Love’ is his first album based solely on classical music. He claims that he was very eager to come up with an album based on purely classical music.
Rahul has collaborated with many other artists before, but this was the first time where he worked with Zakir Hussain. He claims that while the two of them were on the tour, they never really discussed music; they would talk about anything in general but music.
Rahul is very glad to have worked with the Ustad. He has several fond memories where the tour is concerned. He feels that the great tabla master is a very inspiring and at the same time a greatly challenging musician. With the two very talented musicians working together the album is sure going to be a treat for the lovers of Hindustani classical music.
