Winfrey to kick off season with Black Eyed Peas

CHICAGO — Oprah Winfrey is taking over the Magnificent Mile.

The talk show host will tape an episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Tuesday afternoon on a three-block stretch of Michigan Avenue near the Chicago River.

Winfrey will host the Black Eyed Peas to celebrate the kickoff of the 24th season of her show.

The taping is free and open to the public. Harpo Productions says Winfrey expects thousands of people to attend. Her production company, Harpo Productions, says it will cover all city costs for police, paramedics and sanitation.

The taping means part of Michigan Avenue — which is known as the Magnificent Mile for its upscale shopping — will be closed until Wednesday morning.
