July 28, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Hollywood star Angelina Jolie’s latest movie Salt has earned Rs 7.8 crore at the box office in three days at the weekend, reported Sony Pictures.
On July 23, the movie was released in India with 464 prints in four languages Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu. It was released simultaneously in the US and earned USD 36 million at the box office.
Kercy Daruwala, India MD of Sony Pictures said, “It may turn to be the highest earning female-led Hollywood film in India. Indian audiences have always loved the spy genre. Moreover, Jolie’s appeal with both women and men has been able to make this great business”.
The Hollywood hottie Jolie is probably the only actress, who can carry well the action film. Jolie plays Evelyn A. Salt, a CIA operative, who is suspected to be Russian sleeper agent. She has performed some extraordinary stunts in the movie and all by herself.
The film was originally written for a male sleeper spy to be played by Tom Cruise. The movie has also stars like Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejioforthe.
