SAG Awards 2011: Betty White Wins Once Again

LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Veteran actress Betty White is still going strong despite being at the wrong side of 80. All those who had presumed that after winning the Lifetime Achievement Award during the Screen Guild Awards last year, the noted actress marked the closure of her acting career were in for a pleasant surprise last night at the 17th Annual SAG Awards in Los Angeles when Betty White took home the honor for the Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series for her role in ‘Hot In Cleveland.’

After the 89-year-old actress was announced as the winner in the category of Outstanding Female Performer in Comedy Series, a visibly shocked Betty White walked up on the stage to receive the honor. The star-studded audience at the Los Angeles based Shrine Exposition Center gave the veteran actress a standing ovation and cheered boisterously when actor Jon Hamm presented her with the prestigious award. During her acceptance speech at the 17th Annual SAG Awards, in her trademark sense of humor, Betty White quipped, “I cannot believe this, They got the old broad up those stairs- and that’s not easy,” as the audiences burst out in laughter. The veteran actress went on to add that the 2011 SAG award was the biggest surprise she had ever had in the movie business.

In order to walk away with the Outstanding Performer in Comedy series SAG awards 2011, Betty White had to beat out other noted nominees which included Tina Fey for ‘30 Rock,’ Jane Lynch for ‘Glee,’ Edie Falco for ‘Nurse Jackie’ as well as the ‘Modern Family’ star Sofia Vergara.
