‘Catch Me If You Can’ sneaks onto Broadway in ‘11

NEW YORK — The story about con man Frank Abagnale Jr. has found a new way to spin its web: as a Broadway show.

Producers of “Catch Me If You Can” say their musical adaptation of the story made into a Stephen Spielberg-directed film will officially open on Broadway at a still-unnamed Nederlander theater on April 10.

The book is by Terrence McNally, who wrote “Love! Valour! Compassion!” Jack O’Brien, director of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” will direct.

Music and lyrics are by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman, both of whom worked on “Hairspray.” Choreography is by Jerry Mitchell, who directed and choreographed “Legally Blonde.”

Casting will be announced later. The musical first opened in Seattle in 2009 with Aaron Tveit as the fugitive and Norbert Leo Butz as the FBI agent hunting him down.
