NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Hip-hop star Wyclef Jean is all set to run for President of Haiti. The ‘911′ star said that if he cannot take out five years from his life to work for his country, then everything that he has been singing about does not mean anything.
The Grammy winner is known for his humanitarian efforts and he has been an active member of the relief operations of the recent earthquake in Haiti. His brother has recently said that Wyclef Jean is running the elections because he believes that he can win it. He said that as a child Wyclef Jean was extremely passionate about music and even went against his parents wishes. His parents wanted to make the most of the free education that was provided by the church. Wyclef Jean, according to his brother, used to sneak out to the clubs where he started his career as a rapper. He is known was his unique rapping style that blends the American hip-hop with reggae and even folk music.
The January 12 earthquake that saw the loss of 300,000 lives in Haiti saw Wyclef Jean up the ante in terms of charity. His ‘Hope For Haiti Now’ campaign raised as much as $57 million. In spite of the efforts, Wyclef Jean has come under scrutiny for his actions as it was alleged that some of the funds were used in parties that were not related to the charity work in Haiti. Wyclef Jean has defended himself saying that the books of the campaign are open and transparent. The elections in Haiti are set to take place in November this year.
