PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI (GaeaTimes.com)- Noted rapper Wyclef Jean’s bid to run for the presidency of the earthquake-wrecked nation of Haiti has come to an end after the election committee of the country has disqualified his candidacy. The highly-acclaimed musical artist is one of the 15 contenders who had submitted their candidacy to run for the presidency in Haiti but were dismissed by the election officials of the Caribbean island nation. However, around 19 candidates have been approved by the committee participate in the elections that is all set to take place in the month of November this year.

On late Friday night, Wyclef Jean issued a statement responding to the decision of the election committee in which he confirmed that the board of election in Haiti had barred him from participating in the presidential elections. Although through the statement, the 40-year-old musical artist expressed his disappointment about the decision of the election committee, he added that he was accepting the decision while asking his supporters to do the same. The musical artist made an appeal to all his followers to accept the decision of the Haiti election board ‘peacefully and responsibly.’

However, it is not yet confirmed that what were the reasons which resulted in the election committee rejecting his candidacy. It is being speculated that Wyclef Jean failed to fulfill the residential requirements for running for the post of Haiti president, according to which the candidate has to live in the country for five consecutive years before he can run for the post. Although the musical artist was born in Haiti, he moved to United States with his family as a child.
