Tony Awards 2010

NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Tony Awards 2010 witnessed British actors shine as they clinched some of the most prominent awards in the show. English drama “Red” in the Tony Awards Theater Wing was awarded the best play award. Not only that, “Red” also brought the best director award for director Michael Grandage and actor Eddie Redmayne. Eddie Redmayne who was widely appreciated for his portrayal of the character of a disillusioned assistant to painter Mark Rothko, collected his maiden Tony. “Red” as a drama received five special honors at the Tony Awards due to its bold portrayal of the enormous tension which filled the air in an age where art and commerce stood as obstacles to one another.

“Red” playwright John Logan was a happy man at the Tony Awards to have witnessed his play receiving the award for the Best Drama. He called it to be a great moment and something that he would cherish forever. Apart from “Red,” Tony Awards this year was a big event for Douglas Hodge who won the Best Actor In A Musical Award for his performance in “La Cage Aux Folles”. The very same musical also brought a Tony Award for director Terry Johnson. British playwright Alan Ayckbourn was given a special tribute and was handed over the Lifetime Achievement Award.
