History Revisited

June 7, 2010 (Sampurn Wire):History has always been a source of inspiration for Bollywood filmmakers. Past events, wars and our freedom struggle have been translated on the silver screen several times. Our actors have played martyrs like Gandhiji, Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose but hardly has a Bollywood actor played an international historical figure. Bollywood veteran Anupam Kher seeks to amend that as he gears up to play Adolf Hitler.

Kher will essay the role of the famous Nazi ruler in the Rakesh Ranjan Kumar directed film. The film will take a look at his personal life, as well as his journey as the Nazi crusader. Adolf Hitler, instrumental for World War II, is remembered as one of the most aggressive and ruthless leaders of all times. Playing him is a daunting task and Kher is well-aware of it. But the skilled actor is well up to the challenging project. Neha Dhupia will feature alongside him as Eva Braun, Hitler’s love interest.

Bollywood’s last dose of history was the epic, Jodha Akbar. This film will be set in an international arena. It remains to be seen how cinegoers react to a version of global history. Anupam Kher has already begun researching on Hitler. Here’s wishing him luck for the project.
