Fashion In The Air Of Mangalore

June 7, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Mangaloreans had a fashionable evening this weekend. The students and faculties of the fashion design department of the Karavali group of colleges had organized a fashion show on last Saturday. The designer costumes were prepared by the students themselves and they walked the ramp showcasing their collections.
The students walked the ramp confidently presenting their designs in a dazzling show of light and music. Mr. Ganesh Rao, the founder chairman of the Karavali group, with his wife Ms. Latha G Rao got personally involved in this show. They wanted to give a foothold to the students in the fashion world.
Speaking to the media, Mr and Mrs. Rao said, “The designing and fashion technology has a great scope in the applied fashion designing and show biz. It is not limited to the academic circuit only. Our students are trained to make a niche in the industry as well as academics.”
Later, Ms. Latha Rao informed that the students developed their own costumes for the show and also choreographed for the event. They arranged the music and lighting and some of the students were involved in directing the show as well.
The students planned three rounds for the fashion show including traditional, creative and the Western rounds. However, the traditional round was selected as the best by the judges. The hard work by the students in hand stitching the garments and creating unique colour combinations paid off.
With more stress on the body language, the Western round reflected highly exotic exuberance. Sensuality was also highlighted with a collection of the denims, leather and stylist headgears.
The creations turned glamorous in the creative section. A student from this round quipped, “You can always expect some elements of surprise in fashion garments. Some exposure of the youth flesh and curves are necessary as it adds to the glamour quotient.”
