Winners of Cannes Film Festival announced

May 24, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The Cannes Film Festival 2010 concluded on Sunday, following the announcement of the winners. The jury, led by filmmaker Tim Burton, announced the winner of the coveted Palme d’Or to be Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

Director Xavier Beauvois’ Of Gods and Men received the runner-up Grand Prix prize.

The Best Actor Award was shared between Javier Bardem for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Biutiful and Elio Germano for La Nostra Vita.

Lesley Manville, who was being considered a strong contender for Best Actress Award for Mike Leigh’s well-reviewed Another Year, lost it to Juliette Binoche who won the award for Abbas Kiarostami’s Certified Copy.

French actor-turned-director Mathieu Amalric won the award for Best Director for his film On Tour. The film deals with the story of an impressario leading a troupe of burlesque dancers on tour through the French provinces.

Korean director, Lee Chang-Dong, won the award for Best Screenplay for his film Poetry which is about a woman searching for meaning as she confronts the aftermath of a child’s death.
