Patrick Dempsey signed for Transformers 3

May 05, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Actor Patrick Dempsey, best known for his role as neurosurgeon, Dr. Derek Shepherd, on the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, has been signed for Transformers 3. He will be playing the boss of Mikaela Banes, the character portrayed by Megan Fox. Nothing is known about the plot of the film but it has been reported that Dempsey’s role is very important to the plot. The film will also star Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky.
The film, which will be directed by Michael Bay, is expected to release in the summer of 2011. Apart from the U.S., the filming will take place in Africa, Moscow, and China. The last two Transformers movies have grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide and received mixed to positive reviews from film critics.
Transformers, the first film of the series, won four awards from the Visual Effects Society and was nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Sound Editing. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the sequel was also nominated for Best Sound at the Academy Awards.
Dempsey has previously appeared in films like Sweet Home Alabama, The Emperor’s Club, Freedom Writers, Enchanted, Made of Honor and Valentine’s Day.
He is an avid race car driver and has raced in the Rolex 24 at Daytona sports car race and Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 off-road race. He is currently the co-owner of IndyCar Series team Vision Racing and Dempsey Racing, which competes in the Grand Am series, GT class.
