April 19, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Aditya Chopra’s forthcoming project, Badmaash Company, had a character based on scamster Abdul Karim Telgi. However, in order to avoid controversy, the character was done away with.

Abdul Karim Telgi was behind the multi-crore stamp paper scam and was arrested by the Mumbai Police in 1991. He is still in jail.

The filmmaker realized that the sequence featuring the character could create trouble for his film and deleted all the required parts.

Telgi’s character had been essayed by a junior artiste, who had shot his scenes with Shahid in Mumbai. Though a light-hearted track, the sequence could have posed trouble, as both Aditya and Parmeet Sethi, the director of the film, felt.

According to sources, the character itself was snipped out of the film as he wasn’t taking the film forward in any way and was in fact, slowing the film down. Aditya and Parmeet felt that preserving a character that wasn’t contributing to the film and could create problems in future was pointless.
