Football, dramas, comedies make CBS most-watched

NEW YORK — It was a remarkable ratings winning streak last week for CBS, which took the top spot with football and claimed a dozen more of the 16 most-watched programs.

The Nielsen Co. says the big show was the AFC divisional playoff game between Baltimore and Indianapolis, which gave CBS nearly 30.6 million viewers.

Ranked second and third for the week were Fox’s season debuts of “American Idol.”

NBC’s Golden Globes broadcast ranked seventh.

But the top of the Nielsen roster was dominated by CBS’ comedies, dramas and “60 Minutes.”

Overall in prime-time for the week, CBS averaged a hefty 16.4 million viewers.

NBC’s “Nightly News” stayed the leader among evening newscasts.
