No charges for Canadian woman who aided Jenkins

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Canadian police said Friday that no charges will be filed against anyone who may have helped fugitive reality TV contestant Ryan Jenkins, who fled to Canada after being accused of killing his ex-wife.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Cpl. Norm Massie said a Canadian warrant for Jenkins’ arrest was not issued until the day after a woman checked him into a remote motel in Hope, British Columbia where he later committed suicide. Massie said because there was no Canadian arrest warrant for Jenkins issued before they checked into the motel Thursday, there is no evidence to support charges against her.

A silver PT Cruiser matching the description of the vehicle seen dropping Jenkins at the motel was parked at his half-sister’s condominium in Vancouver, police said.

Massie said the woman who drove Jenkins to Hope will not be identified because there are no charges coming.

Massie also said police have learned Jenkins crossed the U.S.-Canada border alone sometime between Aug. 19, 2009 and Aug. 20.

Jenkins, a contestant on VH1’s “Megan Wants a Millionaire,” was accused of killing his ex-wife, a model whose body was so badly mutilated when found in a trash bin outside Los Angeles that it had to be identified by the serial numbers on her breast implants.

Jenkins, 32, made a 1,000-mile (2,000-kilometer) dash for the border by car and boat before crossing into Canada on foot. He eventually wound up in an isolated motel in British Columbia’s interior, where he was found hanging from a coat rack on Sunday.

An autopsy by Canadian officials indicated suicide.

Massie said he could not discuss any evidence found in the motel room but said Canadian police continue to work with U.S. authorities on the case.
