You would not expect a modern-day American comedian to have a lot in common with a grouchy cartoon mammoth.

But Ray Romano admits his Ice Age character Manny seems to be following his own real-life path.

The 51-year-old star shot to global fame with his sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond but it is as the voice of moody mammoth Manny that he has become a hero to his kids.

In the new film ‘Ice Age 3: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs’, Manny is facing up to the prospect of impending fatherhood and struggling to cope with the panic - just like Ray did when his daughter Alexandra was born in 1990.

"When you see the movie and the panic it brings to Manny, I reacted the same way with my first kid because it becomes a reality all of a sudden.

"I did everything wrong in the beginning so my wife was just telling me to get out of the way.

"I went to pick up my wife and baby from the hospital and I parked in a towaway zone so we came out and the car was gone. We had to take a cab home with a very annoyed wife and a 4lb human in my arms.

So I relate to him."

The Ice Age movies are among the most successful animated films of recent years thanks to their clever blend of childish and adult humour and super computer animation.

This time, the movie is also releasing in a 3-d version.

‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ is all set to hit theatres in India on July 3 and will be dubbed in Hindi too.
