‘Idol’ contestant Lambert gets hometown hurrah

SAN DIEGO — Adam Lambert returned to his San Diego high school in triumph, with thousands of students and fans cheering the “American Idol” finalist.

The 27-year-old Lambert entered the Mt. Carmel High School stadium in a red convertible, with cheerleaders and a marching band joining in the celebration. The mayor of San Diego declared Friday to be “Adam Lambert Day.”

Lambert is among three finalists left in the “American Idol” competition. The other two are Danny Gokey of Milwaukee and Kris Allen of Conway, Ark., who were also set for hometown celebrations Friday.

A winner will be announced on the May 20 “American Idol” finale on Fox TV.
