1929 - Ranjit Film Co. was founded by Chandulal Shah and Gohar at Bombay.

1929 - The Fate of the Outlaw’, a 7-reel film produced by Majestic Film Co. was prohibited by the Board of Censors, Bombay, on April 23 on the grounds that the film glorifieds crime.

1969 -Manoj Bajpai (born on 23 April, 1969) is a Hindi film actor, known for playing offbeat and unconventional roles. He first shot into fame with his breakthrough role on Ram Gopal Varma’s 1997 film, Satya.

1974 - Shwetha Menon (born April 23 at Chandigarh) is an Indian actress who has appeared in over 30 films. She is best known for her appearance in PT Kunhahammed’s award winning Malayalam film Paradesi.

1978 - Sid Vicious filmed his rendition of Paul Anka’s "My Way" for the Sex Pistols’ film "The Great Rock n’ Roll Swindle."

1982 - Amita Chandekar (Born 23 April) is a TV Actor. She was adjudged the best model in her college and later participated in ramp shows. Later she successfully auditioned for Balaji’s Kutumb.

1987 - Carole King sued record company owner Lou Adler for breach of contract. King asked $400,000 in royalties the rights to her old recordings. 

1991 - Johnny Thunder died of a drug overdose at the age of 38. 

1992 - Satyajit Ray, internationally famous Indian film producer-director, Bharat Ratna Awardee, passed away at the age of 70.

2000 - Noted theatre personality and well- known actress Pearl Padamsee passed away on April 23 at her home in Colaba in Mumbai after a massive heart attack. She was 69. - SAMPURN
