1921 – Subodh Mukherjee (April 14, 1921 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh – May 21, 2005 in Mumbai, Maharashtra) was a Bengali Indian filmmaker (producer and director).Brother of the producer director Sashadhar Mukherjee.

1941 - Julie Christie, actress (Dr Zhivago), was born in Assam, India.

1968 - Sanjay Gupta (Born April 14,) is a Bollywood writer-director known for his dark and highly stylised film noir thrillers that stand out from the usual Bollywood fare. Sanjay Gupta comes from an affluent business family of South Mumbai. He completed his studies at Palm Beach School at Napean Sea Road and Sydenham College at Churchgate in Mumbai.

2000 - Salman Rushdie, emerging in public for the first time on Indian soil after the 1989 fatwa, said on April 14 evening that he was delighted to return to the country of his birth.

2000 – Actress Michelle Pfeiffer won the award for favourite actress in the suspense category at the 7th annual Blockbuster Awards in Los Angeles. She won the award for her role in the movie What Lies Beneath.

2000 - Jessy Kuttikad, Malayalam film actor, director and scriptwriter, died in Kochi after a brief illness. He was 62 and is survived by his wife and daughter. Kuttikad began his film career as an actor in 1965. He directed nearly 35 films, beginning with Sapamoksham in 1974.
