Rajesh Vaidya To Recieve Kalaimamani awards

CHANNAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The Tamil Nadu State government has announced that names of the 74 recipients of the esteemed Kalaimamani awards on Friday. The award ceremony will take place on February 13 and chief minister M Karunanidhi will be the chief guest in the event to distribute the awards to the recipients. This awards ceremony of Tamil Nadu pays an ode to all those people from different fields, who have excelled in some or the other art forms in their own rights and with their own hard work and effort. Leading South Indian Veena Player Rajesh Vaidya would be one of the proud recipients of this award this time.

Rajesh Vaidya is the son of K.M. Vaidyanathan, and like his father, he is an exponent of both Mridangam and Ghatam. At the age of six, he was put under the tutelage of Smt. Jeyalakshmi, and then, to get a better command over this art form, he approached Smt Rama Nambinarayanan, and then the Shri Chitti Babu, the veena maestro of South India. However, apart from playing the veena in the nation and all over the world, Rajesh Vaidya is also an endorser of the rich Indian culture and tradition. He propagates the prospects of Indian music and its forms all over the world, through seminar and lectures, in different institutions, especially in a Canada based institution namely, “VEENALAYAM”.

Rajesh Vaidya has also been honored with the Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peeta Aasthana Vidwan award before. With all that achievement at a very young age, Rajesh Vaidya is indeed one of the most deserving recipients of the award. The other artists from non film back ground, who have also been selected for the award are writer Dr Tamizh Annal, orator S. Sathyaseelan, Dindigul Leoni and T Mangayarkarasi, mridangam artists J Sivakumar and NS Rajam, flute artists Tiruvarur S Saminathan and KV Ramanujam and many more.
