Joan Sutherland Passes Away

GENEVA (GaeaTimes.com)- Dame Joan Sutherland, the Australian dramatic coloratura soprano has died at her home on Sunday evening owing to her long illness. Joan Sutherland’s family announced the news to the media where it was stated that she died peacefully at her home at the age of 83. The singer retired from her flourishing career 20 years ago and her family says that she was not keeping well after she broke both her legs in 2008.

Joan Sutherland’s family did not elaborate the illness she was suffering from. Yesterday the La Scala opera house paid as tribute to the singer and the officials of the opera released a statement where it was stated that the legendary opera singer was the “queen of bel canto”. The La Scala opera’s statement also read that the singer was not only a “master virtuoso” but she is an example to everybody who sang after her. The opera expressed her condolence by maintaining in the statement that Joan Sutherland’s voice and her ability to perform so well gave her listeners and Italian “bel canto” the force of a “stylistic consciousness”.

Joan Sutherland’s family released a statement where it was stated that the Grammy award-winning singer, who was also known as the “Voice of the Century” had a long life and gave pleasure to lot of people through her wonderful voice and singing. The statement released by the family also read that Joan Sutherland is an important person all over the world and the family is trying to come to terms with the loss. The veteran singer is survived by her husband Richard Bonyng, her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. Her funeral will be held on October 14, the media sources report.
