Tempe Hosts Oktoberfest

TEMPE (Gaea Times.com)- Oktoberfest Tempe 2010 finally started on Friday to the joy of about 200,000 people who will be a part of three day celebrations. The festival is held at Tempe Beach park and will continue till Sunday amidst beers and polka which are the main attraction of the event. 16 different types of Beer is said to be available in the fest and are from seven different countries. The beer party is thus what draws many Americans to the place. The event will also include a carnival, kids games and much more but brats, beer and music are gonna dominate the three day fest.

Though one look at the celebrations may make one think that its is only about merry making and beer drinking, which it is but the Oktoberfest in Tempe is of great importance to the organizers, the Tempe Sister City Corporation which is a non profit student organization and derives much during the celebrations. The entry in the event is free and the money comes in food proceeds and beer tickets. The organization offers a variety of foreign exchange programs to students and teachers of Tempe. The organization reportedly has link with nine cities which includes Regensberg in Germany.

Oktoberfest in Tempe therefore is an important venue for the organization to carry on with their work. Oktoberfest had its origin is Germany in 1810 and they are having their 200th anniversary this year. The celebrations when held for the first time as a public commemoration of Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Saxe -Hildburghausen that year and became so successful that it was celebrated every year and became a part of their tradition.
