Malayalam Actor and Director Venu Nagavally Dies at 61

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com) — It seems South Film Industry is going through a sad time now. After the untimely death of Tamil actor Murali yesterday, Malayalam film actor cum director Venu Nagavally has left us this morning. He died at a private hospital here at the age of 61.
Sources suggest that Venu was suffering from illness for some time. He was admitted to the hospital as his condition deteriorated last week. Venu is survived by his wife and son.
The veteran actor of Malayalam cinema had acted in over 200 films. He was the famous son of famous writer and broadcaster Nagavally RS Kurup. Besides showing his charisma in acting, the man has excelled with his prodigy in the field of film direction. Among the 12 movies that he directed many were blockbuster hits during the 1990s.
The movies that earned Venu accolades are Yavanika, Salini Ente Koottukari etc. The movie ‘Lal Salaam’ under his direction, was based on the lives of early Communist leaders of Kerala, Sukhamo Devi and Ai Auto.
Venu resigned from his job as a broadcaster in All India Radio to devote himself as a full time director.
