ISLAMABAD - Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie, who is on a visit to flood affected regions in Pakistan as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, has condemned plans of an American church pastor to burn copies of the Quran on September 11.

When asked if she would support the pastor’s plan, Jolie said: Of course not”.

“I have hardly the words that somebody would do that to somebody’s religious book,” she added.

Jolie further said that the protest, to be organized by Pastor Terry Jones, could be used by the Taliban and other militants as a propaganda tool to stir up anti-American sentiment.

She also believes that the act may spark a wider clash between the West and Islam.

Meanwhile, despite criticism from the White House, the State Department and several religious leaders, Jones has refused to cancel the protest set for Saturday at his Dove World Outreach Centre in Florida.

Jones said that the US Constitution gives him the right to publicly set fire to the book that Muslims consider the word of God.

“How much do we back down? How many times do we back down? Instead of us backing down, maybe it’s to time to stand up. Maybe it’s time to send a message to radical Islam that we will not tolerate their behavior,” Jones said. (ANI)
