MEMPHIS (GaeaTimes.com)- Johnny Depp’s dedication to the cause of the West Memphis Three was evident when the star performed at the gig organized over the weekend in Memphis. With stars such as Eddie Vedder and Patti Smith joining in, the concert became a treat for music fans. With a 2500 strong crowd, the concert was aimed to raise funds and awareness about the West Memphis Three. Not only did the ‘Pirates of the Caribbeans’ star perform alongside the Pearl Jam frontman, but also read out some passages from the journal of Damien Echols, who has been on the death row for 17 years.
Johnny Depp appeared on stage in the middle of the concert and began to read out the passages. As the fans started to shout his name, he reminded the audience the purpose for which they were all gathered. Johnny Depp has played an active role in the campaign against the judiciary’s decision of 1993 to convict the three men for the murder of three 8 year old children. Later evidences have pointed that the three men might have been innocent after all. Johnny Depp again walked out on stage during the performance of Eddie Vedder. Looking like a perfect rockstar, he managed to amaze the crowd with his guitar skills as well. Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines was also present to support the West Memphis Three.
In the last part of the show, the influential, Patti Smith came on stage intentionally mixed up some chords. She then used the comparison of her mistake to that of the judicial system with a number of expletives that got the audience talking on West Memphis Three. Finally all the artists came together on stage to perform ‘People have the Power’.
