LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- Johny Depp fans had a treat over the weekend as the actor arranged a gig with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines to raise money for the West Memphis Three. Though Johny Depp’s support for the cause of the West Memphis Three has been well documented, the weekend concert became the center of media attention as the three stars performed live in front a 2500 strong audience at the Little Rock’s Robinson Center Music Hall in West Memphis. The concert was arranged exactly one month from the day that Damien Echols, the man on death row, will appeal for a retrial. The concert was organized to raise money for the legal fees of the convicted men and also to raise awareness about their cause.

The cause of the West Memphis Three received huge media attention after celebrities of the likes of Johny Depp started to show their support for the three men who were convicted in 1993 for the murder of three 8 year old children. Among the three, Damien Echols was given the life sentence and he has been on the death row for 17 years. The case got even more highlight when it was pointed out that none of the evidences led to the three men.

Jessie Misskelley Sr., the father of one of the accused, appreciated Johny Depp for taking up the cause of his son. His son Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin are also among the West Memphis Three who have been served the life sentence.
