Wesley Snipes waits for his surrender date

August 24, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Wesley Snipes continued to spend his time in Florida as his surrender date remains to be decided. The federal Judge presiding over the case issued an emergency stay on Monday that will allow Snipe’s September 2 Surrender date to come and go. So it seems that Snipes can still enjoy his freedom and hope to God that his lawyers can come up with something to stop the prison sentence.
Two years ago Snipes was convicted for tax evasion and he was supposed to start serving his 3-year prison sentence soon. It seems that there is quite a lot of paperwork that still needs to be filed before a surrender date can be fixed.
Last month an appellate court upheld Snipe’s conviction but on August 5, District Court Judge William Terrell Hodges provided Snipe’s Lawyers 20 days time to file a motion for a new trial. After the retrial motion, prosecutors will have 20 more days to respond.
On Tuesday, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida did not set a new surrender date. Now that his surrender date has been cancelled, it seems that Snipes might be able to take part in the Indie action movie Havana Heat that starts in November this year.
