LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- NBC talk show “Today” has always been associated with entertainment quotient and bringing in to the limelight stories that leaves the viewers rather intrigued with its interesting elements. This notion about the NBC program was reinforced once again last night when the show featured the mind-blogging story of a ten-year-old Maryland boy’s who was able to survive after being stabbed by a stingray barb.
In the one-on-one with Meredith Vieira, Quentin Tokar divulged that he was stabbed with a 10cm long stingray barb while on a holiday with his family few weeks ago. The boy along with his parents, visited Outer Banks in North Carolina earlier this month when Quentin Tokar accidentally got stabbed in his abdomen while the family went out for some moonlight fishing. While talking about the incident, Peter Tokar stated that the barb of the stingray was sticking out from the stomach of his son and obviously his initial reaction was to just pull out the thing. However, on the advise of a nurse and another gentleman who was present at that time, the boy’s father did not do so and rather took him to a medical facility nearby.
After being stabbed with a stingray barb, Quentin Tokar underwent a surgery at a hospital in Virginia following which he was admitted at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. The ten-year-old was then shifted to the Baltimore based Johns Hopkins Children’s Center where he received treatment for the bacterial infection that he was confronting. The story reminded many viewers of the September 2006 incident in which crocodile hunter Steve Irwin lost his life after he was stabbed by a stingray barb.
