LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- It is the “First Amendment right” that has led famous Talk radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger to bid adieu to a job she had been doing for the past 30 years. On Tuesday, Dr. Laura Schlessinger announced her retirement from the program during CNN’s “Larry King Live”. The announcement comes a week after the veteran radio show host used the n-word 11 times during her conversation with a black female caller who had called up to seek advice on handling racist comments that she had to face regularly from her white husband’s family and friends.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger maintained during the interview that she has decided to step down from the job in order to “regain my [her] First Amendment right”. She added that after her resignation she would have to no longer “live in fear” of others. Dr. Laura Schlessinger asserted in front of Larry King that she wants to be able to speak whatever is on her mind and in her heart without fearing that somebody or some special-interest group will get angry from her statements. Her resignation according to her will provide her with the opportunity to speak what she thinks is “helpful and useful”.
After her repeated use of the n-word during the radio program, Dr. Laura Schlessinger on Aug 11, apologized by saying that she was attempting to make a “philosophical point” and that her articulation of the word in the process was wrong. However, the lady is not in a mood to stop and plans to use her website to voice her thoughts after she leaves the show towards the end of this year.
