July 28, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): English actor Daniel Craig, who played the role of James Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, is going to star in the US remake of 2009 Swedish film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The original movie was made from a novel with the same title, which was written by Stieg Larsson.

British actress Carey Mulligan will essay the role of Lisbeth Salander, the titular girl. Craig will be playing the journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who will be assisted by Salander in the investigations.

The English version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will be directed by David Fincher and the script is penned by Steve Zaillian. The movie is likely to be released in theaters by next year.

Craig will be seen investigating the mystery of a missing girl, which leads to a string of decades-old murders. The 42-year old actor has taken up the role following the indefinite delaying of the latest James Bond movie.

The writer of the novel Larsson died in 2004, one year prior to the publishing of the first of his Millennium trilogy crime novels. In his native Sweden, the series of his books was made into film with Michael Nyqvist playing the journalist Mikael Blomkvist and Noomi Rapace playing the computer hacker Salander.
