Memphis Musical Gets Four Gongs

NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Radio City Music Hall witnessed “Memphis” Musical emerging to be a multiple winner at the 64th Tony Awards. Memphis Musical clinched four gongs at the Tony Awards that included “Best Book of a Musical”, “Best Orchestrations”, “Best Original Score” and above all the award for the “Best Musical”. Daryl Waters along with David Bryan collected the award on behalf of the entire Memphis Musical crew.

Besides Memphis musical the other notable winners were “Fela! and “La Cage aux Folles” which also emerged as multiple winners at the Tony Awards. Marina Draghici was awarded the Best Costume Design In A Musical Award for “Fela!”. Following her was Robert Kaplowitz who won the Best Sound Design of a Musical Award. The two first time nominees of Hollywood namely Denzel Washington and Scarlet Johansson came out to be big winners at the Tony Awards. Denzel Washington was awarded the Best Actor In A Musical for his role in “Fences” which was also regarded to be one of the very best out of a few revival dramas.

Apart from the early gongs at the Tony Awards 2010, Memphis Musical also received a special tribute at the awards night. Memphis Musical happens to be a David Bryan and Joe DiPietro creation. It draws its elements of inspiration from Memphis who was the very first white disc jockey who used to play black music way back in the year of 1950. Memphis Musical made its grand Broadway debut way back in 2002. A couple of years back Memphis Musical was performed in San Diego, California at the La Jolla Playhouse.
