Rakesh Ranjan Kumar, the director of the upcoming Bollywood movie Dear Friend Hitler, said, “Our film will try to recall the last few days of Hitler’s life. It will try to capture his life in the Berlin bunker as well as the scenario of Germany post Hitler’s death in 1945.”
The movie has a close similarity to the highly praised German film Downfall made in 2004, which starred Bruno Ganz. The personality of the German dictator and his relationship with his the close ones as well as his lover during the final days of the Nazi regime, will be the main focus of the film.
According to the makers of the film, title Dear Friend Hitler, refers to Mahatma Gandhi’s two letters to him. Renowned veteran actor Anupam Kher is going to essay the strong and cunning role of Hitler. Kher has earlier played the role of Gandhi in a TV show. Neha Dhupia is the lucky girl to play the role of Eva Braun, who got married to Hitler just hours before they committed suicide in April 1945.
Anupam Kher has confirmed the news in his tweets. The actor even asked for suggestions from his fans regarding the books he should study for better portrayal of the role. Anil Sharma, the producer of the biopic said, “The film will try to depict the insecurities, fear and pressures on the German leader while taking critical decisions.”
Sharma is yet to decide on whether to include any song or dance in the film, which has a budget between $2-3 million. The shooting will take place in forests and mountains of India and in studios. The makers plan an International release of the movie, but no date has been fixed yet.
