LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- For the family and friends of Neda Agha Soltan, the month of June brings back painful memories of the protests that followed soon after last year’s disputed presidential elections which claimed the lives of many innocent victims. 26-year-old Neda Agha Soltan was one such victim who was brutally murdered during an anti-government protest in Tehran from point blank range on June 20 last year. However, her story is somewhat different from the other victims of the protests as her death was viewed by people all across the world as it was captured on a mobile phone footage. Viewers in the United States would be able to witness the amazingly story of this brave woman’s story when a HBO documentary based on her life is aired on Monday.
Anticipation regarding the documentary titled “For Neda” has been running immensely high as the film would not only reveal details of Neda Agha Soltan’s personal life, it would also showcase some of her family members speaking about her unfortunate death for the very first time. Although the documentary is yet to make its debut in United States, it was broadcast in Iran last week in Farsi.
The documentary based on the life of Neda Agha Soltan was shot after journalist Kamali Dehghan smuggled a video camera in the Iran after he was unable to find a crew who would film the documentary. It has also been revealed that although the documentary mainly focuses on the young woman, it also explores the utter repression and inequality that Iranian woman have to deal with under the Islamic regime.
