Wisteria lanes new resident: Vanessa Williams

May 19, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): In a recent report, ABC confirmed that Vanessa Williams will be included in the cast of the seventh season of its comedy drama series, Desperate Housewives.
The show, which follows the life of a group of women in Wisteria Lane in the fictional American town of Fairview, through domestic struggles and family life, while facing the secrets, crimes and hidden mysteries; is a multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award winner. In 2007, it was reported to be the most popular show with an audience of approximately 120 million.
Mark Cherry, the creator of the show had earlier said that he was looking for a new resident for Wisteria Lane, someone who can be the new trouble maker and fill the gap left by the death of Nicollette Sheridan’s character, Edie.
Cherry added that he is a big fan of William’s work and is excited that she will be part of the neighborhood next season to cause trouble in all the ladies’ lives.
William has made numerous television appearances in a number of shows like T.J. Hooker, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Saturday Night Live, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, LateLine, MADtv, Ally McBeal and Boomtown. She received lot of praise as well as media attention for her role as former magazine creative director turned Editor-in-chief Wilhelmina Slater in the ABC comedy series Ugly Betty. Her performance earned a nomination for outstanding supporting actress at the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards.
