April 22, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): If sources are to be believed, Robert Downey Jr. may soon be playing the wizard in a prequel to the “Wizard of Oz” by Disney.

The actor is currently in talks with the team and if everything goes well, he may be seen as the wizard in the movie.

Titled “The Great Powerful”, the film, was earlier called “Brick.” It is based on L. Frank Baum’s books, where a con man from Kansas becomes the mysterious man behind Oz’s big curtain.

Although there is no other information about the cast or the plot, the studio has two different directors, Sam Mendes and Adam Shankman in mind to direct the movie. The film may go into production from Spring 2011, if everything falls into place soon.

Meanwhile, Downey will be reprising his role as Tony Stark in “Iron Man 2”, which will be releasing on May 7. He also has a number of upcoming projects, both completed and in development. He recently finished production of the comedy “Due Date” with Zach Galifianakis. He also lent his voice to the animated film “Megamind” alongside Tina Fey, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller. He will be seen in “Iron Man 3,” as Tony Stark and will also take the role to “The Avengers” in May 2012.

There may also be a Sherlock Holmes sequel, even though nothing has been confirmed.
