April 20, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): James Bond, who is known to have the best tech gadgets on the planet, the coolest cars and the most gorgeous women at his beck and call, finally seems to be a victim of recession.

According to MGM, the next installment of the long-running hit franchise has been postponed indefinitely. The reason behind this seems to be the uncertainty surrounding MGM’s future and the failure to close a sale of the studio. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are unsure of when there will be any development on Bond 23. There is no fixed date for release.

The film was rumoured to be releasing in 2011 and Daniel Craig, who plays Bond currently, had earlier stated that the 23rd Bond film would be beginning production this year. Sam Mendes, Kate Winslet’s soon-to-be-ex-husband was to be working on the movie.

Frost/Nixon screenwriter Peter Morgan was working on the screenplay of the movie with Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have previously worked on Bond films Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale.

MGM, which put itself up for sale last year, is in a debt of about $3.7 billion.
