April 20, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Michael Douglas, academy award winner actor and producer, wrote a letter to judge and pleaded to show mercy on his drug-dealing son. This five page long neatly written letter joins others written to the court by Cameron Douglas’ high-profile supporters which includes grandfather Kirk Douglas, stepmother Catherine Zeta-Jones and NBA executive Pat Riley.

In his letter, Douglas highlighted his son’s problem of a privileged but difficult childhood and a family legacy of drug and alcohol problems. he mentioned about his own experience of finding own identity with a famous father but said that in Cameron’s case it was even more difficult to deal two generations of powerful screen icons with father and grandfather, legendary actor Kirk Douglas. He also wrote about Cameron’s suffering because of failed marriage of his parents.

Douglas wrote that he has cherished weekly two-hour visits with his son over the past eight months at a Manhattan federal jail. He sees Cameron as a changed man and sober, realizing consequences of his actions and blaming no one but himself.

Cameron, 31 has been arrested for drugs at least twice. In 2007 he was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance after police officers found a syringe with liquid cocaine in a car he was in. On January 27, 2010, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute drugs and also to heroin possession after his girlfriend tried to smuggle him heroin inside an electric toothbrush while he was under house arrest. He currently faces up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing on drug charges in Manhattan Federal Court.
