OKARA - Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) beneficiaries want to appoint their favourites as judges with the help of the 18th Amendment.

Khan said a compromise made over the judicial commission reflected the dual standards of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), adding that anyone wanting to strengthen democracy in the country must flourish as an independent judiciary.

He further said that the basic function of opposition in the Parliament was to highlight the people’s problems, but the PML-N had taken no step to realise the responsibility, The Nation reports.

Khan reckons that PML-N’s stance regarding compromise for the sake of democratic stability was not a principled one and an insult to people’s mandate.

He was also of the opinion that the procedure regarding judges’ appointment mentioned in the 18th Amendment would affect the independence of the judiciary. (ANI)
