NBC sends Lauer, Roker to Afghanistan
NEW YORK — NBC’s “Today” show will broadcast from Afghanistan this week.
Matt Lauer and Al Roker will anchor the show Tuesday and Wednesday from the country, a trip that comes in the wake of President Barack Obama’s announcement last week that he’s sending 30,000 more troops there.
Lauer and Roker will spend time on the ground and in the air reporting on U.S. forces. It’s the first time TV’s top-rated morning news show has originated a broadcast from the country. Although Lauer has traveled all over the globe as part of his “Where in the World is Matt Lauer” series, NBC says he’s never been to Afghanistan.
NBC will broadcast from the capital city of Kabul.
