Bebe Winans Arrested For Domestic Violence, Yet To Appear on Oprah

Los Angeles - Gospel singer BeBe Winans was arrested in February this year for domestic violence. The case is still pending. In recent past, Oprah Winfrey had spoken strongly against domestic violence and had taken Chris Brown to task, remember? And yet Bebe Winans will appear in the Oprah show tomorrow. Wait, there is more.
Ironically BeBe Winans was arrested the day right before Oprah had aired her domestic violence special in response to the Chris Brown and Rihanna incident. As it happens, BeBe Winans will not only appear on the Oprah show but will also be the host of Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge, which is a countrywide competition to find the best karaoke singer.
BeBe Winans wife is reportedly very hurt by Oprah’s decision to promote BeBe Winans in her show. I cannot blame her.
On one hand Oprah didn’t allow Chris Brown to appear on her show after Rihanna incident and on the other hand she is not only allowing BeBe Winans (who was arrested for the same crime of domestic violence) to appear on her show but also to host a very prominent event. The question has been raised by several bloggers is whether Oprah is following double standards.

As African American women we can make some changes our self and stop being so provokative. Our attitude and our ways are sometimes so ugly. I’m not going to sugar coat the way we really can be. I am not saying it is ok for anyone to be battered. but two wrongs donot make a right. If the courts went really investigated both sides of some domestic violence cases then both sides would be revealed. |
